About the Founder

Isabel Wang started Adaptive Skating HTX in 2022, during her freshman year at Rice University, after witnessing the challenges faced by a loved one with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She wanted to create a welcoming and fun environment where children with disabilities could express themselves, build friendships, and experience the joys of ice skating.

A competitive ice dancer with over a decade of experience, Isabel holds a Gold Medal in Moves in the Field, a Pre-Gold Medal in Ice Dance, and Gold-level distinction in the USFS Senior Program. She also has extensive experience working with children with disabilities, having previously been involved with a therapeutic skating program in Great Neck, NY.

Isabel graduated from Rice in 2026 with Bachelor of Arts in Health Sciences and a minor in Data Science. She is now a medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. While she is no longer in Houston, Adaptive Skating HTX remains incredibly important to her, and she continues to stay involved in an advisory role, supporting the team and the organization as it grows.

For Isabel, Adaptive Skating HTX has always been about more than learning how to skate. She loves seeing children gain confidence, form friendships, and find a community where they can be themselves. She hopes to continue using her love of skating to create more inclusive spaces and advocate for communities whose voices are too often overlooked.
